Margaret River Camp Article

Specialist Baseball Students at South Fremantle Senior High School recently visited the South West Region of Margaret River and Dunsborough to conduct Baseball workshops from the 4-6th of June.

During the three day camp six specific sessions were conducted between three schools, which included activities involving throwing, batting, fielding, arm speed testing and whiffle ball games. The SFSHS Baseball students, headed by recently signed professional Sam Kennelly facilitated the sessions, providing opportunities to gain experience running drills and an insight into junior coaching.

Margaret River High School and Primary School, as well as Dunsborough Primary School were all involved in the initiative and it was fantastic to see such an active group of students participating. The program was able to provide the clinic to approximately 170 year 4,5,6 students in total. The feedback was very positive from the schools and we look forward to expanding on this camp in the future.

Whilst at Margaret River High School the Specialist Baseball Students were privileged to hear from a past great of WA Baseball in Scott Cameron. Scott was a Claxton shield representative, inaugural Perth Heat member, Australian player and starting pitcher for the first ABL game for the Perth Heat. Scott gave some insight into representing Australia and WA, as well as playing Baseball  in America at High School. Scott currently runs the Surfing Specialist Program at the school, which is a very successful program producing some of the future stars of WA.

I would like to thank Fielders Choice Baseball store and the Perth Heat for providing some baseball give-always to the students to help promote Baseball in the rural area during the camp.
