Congratulations to Caydyn Hancock, Ben Mocrieff and Caige Kazmierowski who took out the inaugural Junior League National Championship on the Gold Coast during the Easter Holidays. These students represented the Central Firebirds and beat another team form Perth (North Metros) to take out the titles. They will now represent Australia against Asia in June.
We look forward to seeing their progress as they take on the best charter teams from the Asia-Pacific region, for a chance to go to the JL World Series!

PERTH HEAT ABL CHAMPIONS!!
Congratulations to the Perth Heat who won their 4th ABL title in 5 years and their 6th Claxton Shield in 8 years. The Heat beat the Adelaide Bite in the deciding game in a blow out (12-4) after losing the first game 3-2 and winning game 2, 5-3 in the 10th inning.
Allan de San Miguel was named the MVP for the Championship series, as he collected the massive hit in the 10th inning of game two, driving in the winning runs to keep the Heat alive.
Allan is a graduate of the SFSHS Baseball Program and regularly helps out the program with visits and workshops.
Congratulations to the Perth Heat Dynasty as they continue to lead the way for Baseball in Australia.

Week 1 in review!
The 2015 year has started well and student's have begun to settle into their classes. It has been a very busy week with students in years 7-9 engaged in a "Big Day In" workshop.
On the Baseball front;
Year 7's- have had an introduction session with a quick cardio workout in the weights room.
A warm-up game, throwing drills and introduction to our 6 F's for fielding. Today we introduced our Hitting absolutes with plenty of swing practice in the the cages.
Year 8's- have had an introduction session followed by our 6 F's for fielding and footwork in the hall. Students have completed a "values and culture" workshop to help determine what our program should look like both on and off the field. Today we had a mass hitting session in the cages with an emphasis on our absolutes.
Year 9/10's- had an early morning introduction and work out in the weights room. Some students took advantage of an optional session on Wednesday morning also. Thursday we had a big workout beginning with our "values and culture" workshop, followed by a good hitting session in the cages. We then hit the diamond for some cuts and relays and a game of 2-pitch. I was happy with the intensity of the work-out as we push to get better and take pride in practising perfect!

ABL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Perth Heat will be chasing another ABL title as they take on the Adelaide Bite in a best of 3 series starting tonight at Norwood Oval.
Perth Heat is well represented by graduates of the South Fremantle Specialist Baseball Program, with Matthew and Sam Kennelly, Allan de San Miguel and Daniel Schmidt all playing big parts in the success of the Heat this year.

SFSHS's Josh Rawlinson represents Australia
Congratulations to Josh Rawlinson who was selected to represent the U18's Australian team at the recent World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand. Josh played in the WA team for the National Youth Tournament where they finished in second place after a narrow defeat in the Grand Final against NSW. The Perth team finished 6-1 after the round robin and beat QLD in the semi-final, but unfortunately dropped the Grand Final game 2-1.
The Australian Team was selected after the first few days of play and went on to New Zealand straight from the Youth Championships. The Oceanic Qualifier was played between Australia, New Zealand and Guam, with the winner qualifying for the World Cup laster this year in Osaka, Japan. Josh played mainly 3rd base and assisted team Australia to a 6-0 record, finishing on top of the pool.
We wish Josh all the best in his preparation for the MLB Academy in August, where the World Cup squad will be announced and prepare for the Tournament.
I was also fortunate enough to be asked to travel with the team to New Zealand as an assistant coach. I worked alongside the Australian Senior Manager Jon Deeble and pitching coach Graeme Lloyd. The intensity that was asked of the playing group was extremely high as the culture of Australian Baseball shifts towards training and playing like World Champions!

INTERSTATE BASEBALL TRIP 2015
The specialist baseball program will be heading to the Gold Coast for the Australian Schools Baseball tournament in September 2015 to take on "like" programs from across the country.
We are still waiting to confirm what schools will be participating in the tournament, as we are looking to expand to the east coast.
SFSHS has booked in to stay at the Sports Super Centre, which is a fantastic facility, used as a training camp prior to the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
More details will follow at the beginning of 2015 as we confirm dates, venues and costings for the excursion.

SFSHS represented in WA State Heat!
Congratulations to the following individuals on their selection to represent the WA Sate Heat.The U16's and U18's will be travelling to Sydney to take on the best talent in the country in January next year. A special mention to both David John and Jake Taylor for making their first State Team.
It is great to see their hard work and dedication paying off.

EVENTS
1. Scott Mitchinson Seminar-
Scott will be holding an Injury Prevention & Management talk this Friday during Period 3 for ALL Baseball students.
2. GAMES VS DARLING RANGES
The year 8/9 Baseball group will be playing games against Darling Ranges on Wednesday the 12th of November (confirmed) and hopefully another one on the 19th.
The games will be at Baseball Park and students will be leaving on the school bus at the beginning of the day. There will be two game splayed, with students not involved in the game working on their skills with the following athletes;
3. Matthew Kennelly (Atlanta Braves) and Josh Kennelly (former Cincinnati Reds) will be assisting with the Games vs the Darling Ranges. Both Josh and Matt are former graduates and heavily involved with the Perth Heat. It will be a great opportunity for our students to gain some valuable knowledge from these individuals.
Information will be followed at the beginning of week 3. Thanks

Sam Kennelly Named in U21 World Cup Team
Congratulations to graduate Sam Kennelly on being named in the Australian U21 Team for the upcoming World Cup in November. This is a fantastic opportunity for Sam who has just come back from his first professional season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We wish Sam and the Aussie boys all the best in their lead up to the event.

U18's STATE TEAM
Congratulations to Josh Rawlinson and Alex Oehme on being selected in the U18 State Heat Team.
Alex is returning to the squad this year after a very successful tournament in January, where the team finished with a silver medal. Josh has been selected as a first year player and has just returned from a tour with the Australian Schoolboys National Team.
Alex has been selected as a Pitcher and Josh as a utility player.
We wish these two all the best in their preparation to the Championships in January. The tournament will be held in Sydney from the 9-18th.

RELIEF LESSONS- WEEKS 3-5
I will be away from the 1st - 20th of August at the Cal Ripken World Series with the Australian U13 National Team. Mr Smith will be taking the lessons and will follow the relative training schedule. Some sessions may vary due to weather and room access.

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY
The MLB Australian Baseball Academy gets under way today on the Gold Coast, Queensland. It will host 75 of the best young Baseball players from around the country, with an opportunity to be coached by elite coaches and ex-MLB players.
SFSHS wishes Josh Rawlinson and Alex Oehme best wishes in the next three weeks. Both Josh and Alex are currently in year 11 in the Specialist Baseball Program.

WEEK 8 UPDATE
DARLING RANGES GAME- this Wednesday has been re-scheduled to July 2nd (Week 10) due to a DR schedule conflict. A note has been sent home today to confirm with some updated information.
Please sign and return to Mr Kyle immediately.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING- this weeks sessions have been changed to Wednesday and Thursday morning from 7.30-8.30! See you there.....
TESTING- Students have completed their baseball and fitness related testing for Semester 1. Students also evaluated their performance and provided some goals for the end of the year.
TASK 2- Students have all videoed a skill to analyse. They need to evaluate the skill and break it down into components. This is due at the end of this week.

Little League Championships
The Australian Little League Championships will be held next week from the 4-9th of June, at Tallebudgera Valley, Gold Coast QLD.The Championship team gains immediate entry into the Little League World Series, played in the USA and covered on ESPN globally.
We send our best wishes to all WA participants, especially South Freo's Ben Moncrieff, who will be playing for the Central Firebirds. This is a great tournament with charter teams competing from all over Australia.

GAME VS DARLING RANGE
The lower school baseball team (yr 8/9's) will be heading to Baseball Park on the 18th of June to take on the Darling Ranges Sports College in a double header.
The day will consist of two 7 inning games starting at 10am and 12.15pm.
The year 10 students will be umpiring and coaching during the games.
*if weather is bad the game will be played on the outfield grass and/or we may move to the indoor shed to conduct a clinic.
More information will follow closer to the date. A medical and permission form will be out shortly.

CROSBY NAMED IN AUSTRALIAN SQUAD
Former graduate Rebecca Crosby has been named in the 31 player squad for the EMERALDS (Australian Women's Baseball Team). The Emeralds will be participating in the Women's World Cup, hosted by Japan later this year.
Rebecca is one of 8 Western Australian Players named in the squad and we wish her all the best in making the final team. Rebecca has continued to shine for WA and has been a consistent player at the National level. It is fantastic to see her stepping up and being recognised in the Australian Squad.

RAWLINSON MAKES AUSTRALIAN TEAM
